The Zenith Defy Skyline luxury men's watch has won the prestigious SEW Watch Of The Year 2022 award at the Salon Exceptional Watches international watch fair.

This most important watch exhibition in Central and Eastern Europe is on a par with renowned salons in Switzerland or Germany. The combination of modern design, technical excellence and artisanal precision has once again confirmed why the Zenith brand is one of the icons of Swiss watchmaking.

The victory of elegant watches in the heart of Europe

The Zenith Defy Skyline watch achieved a well-deserved triumph right in the historic centre of Prague. At the prestigious Salon Exceptional Watches trade fair, the expert jury appreciated not only the exquisite watchmaking design, astonishing in its beauty of simplicity, but above all the sophisticated movement, which represents the pinnacle of contemporary watchmaking.

This exceptional men's luxury watch can be admired and purchased after the fair in the exclusive BENY boutiques. The distinguished award for the Zenith Defy Skyline was personally received by Vitor Topalli, representative and one of the owners of this renowned family jewellery shop with a long tradition.

'The award of Zenith Defy Skyline as Watch of the Year confirms the extraordinary quality and exceptional design of this collection,' commented Vitor Topalli on the event. 'This elegant timepiece perfectly captures Zenith's brand philosophy - combining innovative technology with timeless elegance.'

Elegant sporty design for the modern gentleman

Zenith Defy Skyline represents the latest range in the prestigious Defy collection and masterfully combines modern features with reinterpreted classic lines and signature Zenith elements. This exclusive men's collection has been launched in three elegant colourways:

  • blue dial - timeless elegance inspired by the night sky
  • black dial - classic sophistication for formal occasions
  • white dial - modern purity for a distinctive style

All variants come with an integrated steel bracelet equipped with a patented system for easy replacement. A second colour-coordinated rubber strap is also included, allowing for an instant change of look for sportier occasions.

'The Zenith Defy Skyline strikes the perfect balance between sporty and elegant design,' explains watch expert Igor Sirota. 'It's a watch that can be worn with a suit to the office as well as for leisure - its versatility is one of the main reasons for its growing popularity.'

Precise craftsmanship in every detail

the41mm steel case features an edgier design with bold lines that give the Zenith Defy Skyline a modern, urban feel. Yet it retains the distinctive 12-sided bezel inspired by the original vintage Defy models from 1969.

The meticulously redesigned screw-down crown bears Zenith's emblematic star, underlining the luxury character of this watch. A water resistance rating of 10 ATM (100 metres) ensures that this men's luxury watch can handle everyday wear and more challenging conditions.

The dial of this elegant watch impresses with a refined pattern full of symbolically shaped stars - a reference to the starry sky that inspired the brand's founder Georges Favre-Jacot. The eleven rhodium-plated indices are coated with SuperLuminova SLN C1, which ensures excellent legibility even in low-light conditions.

The date marker of this men's luxury watch is located at 3 o'clock offering a practical function for everyday wear. The real surprise, however, is the small sub-dial at 9 o'clock, which displays 10 seconds in 10-second intervals instead of the traditional running seconds - an innovative feature that underlines the technical maturity of this watch.

The revolutionary movement of the Zenith Defy Skyline

The unconventional display of time on the sub-dial has been made possible by the exceptional Caliber El Primero 3620 movement , which represents the technological pinnacle of the Zenith Manufacture. Although based on the legendary El Primero 3600, it has been completely redesigned for the needs of this specific collection.

The movement operates at a frequency of 5Hz (36,000 vibrations per hour), ensuring extreme timekeeping accuracy. Thanks to this high frequency, the chronograph can measure time to within tenths of a second - a feature that was also used in the Defy Skyline.

'The El Primero is a legend in the world of watchmaking,' explains master watchmaker Libor Hovorka. 'In the Defy Skyline we see its most modern interpretation - combining traditional watchmaking craftsmanship with the latest technological innovations.'

A robust sixty-hour power reserve ensures that this elegant timepiece will reliably tell the exact time even after a weekend of no wear. A glance at the back of the watch reveals a sapphire crystal, through which one can admire the movement's precise operation, its artistic decoration and the characteristic star-shaped bidirectional rotor.

Zenith Defy Skyline: an investment in watchmaking

Experts agree that the Zenith Defy Skyline watch is not only an exceptional fashion accessory, but also a potentially profitable investment. 'The Defy collection has a special position in Zenith's portfolio,' explains investment advisor Martin Kovář. 'It combines the brand's historical heritage with innovative technology, creating a watch with high investment potential.'

Winning the Watch of the Year award at the prestigious SEW trade fair reinforces this potential. Similar awards often lead to an increase in the value of models in subsequent years, making the Zenith Defy Skyline an attractive choice not only for lovers of beautiful timepieces, but also for collectors and investors.

Salon Exceptional Watches

The victory of the Zenith Defy Skyline in the 'Watch of the Year' poll was a shining highlight of another successful edition of the international watch fair Salon Exceptional Watches.

The Prague premium watch fair was once again a prestigious showcase of new models and strategic plans, which were personally presented by representatives of the world's most prestigious watch brands. The European significance of the event was underlined by the participation of Swiss watchmakers and designers, who gave visitors a glimpse behind the scenes of the creation of luxury timepieces.

This year's SEW also surpassed its Western European counterparts in the number of expert lectures and workshops. Among the most interesting topics was the analysis of the investment returns of watches, which in some cases outperform traditional investment instruments including stocks or luxury cars such as the Ferrari 488.

'Every year SEW is becoming an increasingly important platform for the presentation of luxury watches in Central Europe,' comments Jan Pokorný, exhibition director. 'The award for the Zenith Defy Skyline is proof that the Czech audience can also appreciate true watchmaking art.'

Zenith: the Swiss tradition since 1865

The success of the elegant Zenith Defy Skyline watch is no accident - it's backed by more than 155 years of experience in luxury watchmaking. Founded in 1865 in Le Locle, Switzerland, the Zenith brand set itself an ambitious goal from the start - to create the world's most accurate watches.

This goal was fulfilled in 1969 when Zenith introduced the legendary El Primero movement - the first fully integrated automatic chronograph with a high frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour. This breakthrough in watchmaking laid the foundations for Zenith's contemporary men's luxury watches, including the award-winning Defy Skyline.

The award-winning Zenith Defy Skyline thus not only continues the brand's rich tradition, but also points the way to the future of luxury watchmaking.
